The artist is Roerich
This is a typically symbolist work in which about a particular object (in this case, about the mood and experiences of the time of the third year of the First World War) is reported not directly, but by the hint of the “correspondence” system-a powerful round wall of the sleeping Romanesque fortress and the shadows of the stooping archers in the ominous reflections of the conflagration. The atmosphere of the work transfers thoughts about the current war into a plan of philosophical generalizations.
